Thousands of Vaux's Swifts spiral into the chimney at Chapman Elementary every fall — one of Portland's most magical free spectacles. The Swifts have been roosting in different chimneys the last couple years, so check at the Greek Orthodox church or other locations as well! Peak Swift season is also closer to the middle of the month, but this is your reminder that it's happening! Bring a blanket, grab a spot on the hill, and watch the sky fill with spinning birds at dusk.
